A Case of Dermatomyositis Diagnosed as Fever of Unknown Origin for One and Half Year

Abstract
A case of dermatomyositis which as diagnosed as FUO (fever of unknown, origin) fo one and half years, was presented.
Dermatomyositis is an uncommon .nnective tissue disorder characterized by. proximal uscle weakness and typical cutaneous lesions. Althoug there appeared to be an increased incidence of de matomyositis in other country, there was only two case reports of dermatomyositis in Korea. Other- clinical studies suggested that. persistant fever seemed to be a kind of prromal sign in some collagen disease such as rhe atoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and pol myositis.
This 27 ,year old male patient was admitted to our Yonsei Medical Center with high fe er and abdominal pain of one week¢¥s duration. On his 73 th hospital day, explorator laparotomy was performed under the pre-operative dia: nosis of-common bile duct disorder, but find out no de finite pathology. And he was discharged with the d¢¥agnosis of FUO without clinical improvement. During his 2nd admission, he bega to suffer from: dyspnea, abdominal pain and gen-ralized muscleweakness including limitation of to poromandibular joint and left shoulder joint. On his 3rd admission, muscle biop y was done on left shoulder and the pathological findings were compatible with dermatomyositis.
